What Is a Migration Agent or Immigration Adviser, Anyway?
Ever googled “migration agent” or “immigration adviser” and ended up more confused than when you started?
You’re not alone.
Migration professionals exist to help people understand, prepare, and apply for visas or immigration pathways — legally and correctly. But there’s more than one type, and the names aren’t interchangeable.
In Australia, it’s Registered Migration Agents (RMAs).
In New Zealand, it’s Licensed Immigration Advisers (LIAs).
Both must follow strict codes of conduct, complete formal qualifications, and stay current with complex law and policy changes.
What matters most?
Whether they take time to explain things clearly — and put your real-life situation at the center.
At Migrately, we’re building an advice service that cuts through the noise. No hidden agendas, no false promises — just the clarity you need to make your next step.
🟢 Not yet offering advice in NZ — licensing in progress.
In New Zealand, immigration advisors must be licensed and registered with the Immigration Advisers Authority (IAA) to provide advice on New Zealand immigration matters. If you do wish to engage an Immigration Advisor always check they are registered.
